What does Garp mean?
Garp in Turkish Ottoman means ''West.'' We are creating an eco-village on the western most point of Asia situated next to a fishing village called Babakale in the Turkish Republic. Our only access to Garp is by boat, ATV motorcycle, or Monica our donkey.
Garp is about:
- volunteering
- organic farming
- alternative ways of living
- arts and crafts
- hospitality
- mutual exchange
Our philosophy is into creating a self-sufficient hideaway on the coast of Turkey with alternative ways of energy including wind and solar power. We have our own natural water source. We are planting in and harvesting from our own organic vegetable gardens and olive tree terraces. Garp was created with these intentions in mind, but will evolve with every person that shares in the experience.
Comment from our visitor
I was amazed at once. It is a place between the realities, a special one where the time and space are different. There is nowhere to hurry there is no time for stress. Everything goes 'yavas-yavas', not in a hurry but it goes. And every day is full with simple and true emotions, which are just the-same-the-same but different. So you don't need to know the language to understand people around and their simple philosophy of life. It is enough just to smile and see smiles. To say that this place is a Paradise is to say nothing. 'Garp' will take you out of madness of the big city and big world and you'll see how much can just a small place mean. So come here for fresh feelings and thougts. But be careful. You can stay here for all your life.

Winter in Garp
Here on the coast, the winter is rather mild with temperatures ranging between 10 and 17°C. Most of the days are sunny, but the weather can change rather quickly. Strong gusty southwest winds, called Lodos in Turkish, occasionally carry large waves to our shore.
